What is a Kanban Board?
Kanban Boards are visual indicators of availability of capacity, they can be denoted by physical cards or other signs on the workstations or other electronic means. In the services and software world, where there is no physical ‘manufacturing’ line, the workflow can be depicted on a physical or an electronic board. This is referred to as the Kanban Board. The Kanban board helps teams visualize their workflow or value stream, and through means of ‘cards’ or ‘stickies’ – physical or electronic “Kanban cards” – provides visual feedback to all participants on how work is flowing across the project or function.
Two main goals of Kanban Board:
- Limit Work in Progress (WIP)
- Signal when new work can be pulled through the system
